Jessica Kert – DW

From a job at the famed Berlin synthesizer haven SchneidersLaden,
to her role as one half of modular live act ZV_K, Jessica Kert has
found particular joy diving into experimentation with her musical
tools. Peering her way through a dense forest of patch cables,
Jessica brings us DW, her second solo EP and her first on Detroit
Underground.

Ushering forth a murky, tumbling world of heavy beats and wandering
weirdness, the EP starts off with a bang as the noisy clank of
“Auswahl” cedes to the submersive howl of “Mehr Auswahl.”

“Vollgeklaeckert” slowly climbs onto the shore, then slides back into a mesmerizing pool of tones and frantic motion.
After that it’s a straight line into the rumbling drive of
“Hope For The Rest”, spare drums opening up to a cavernous maw past the halfway point.

The last two cuts dive even deeper, with the snaking acidicism of
“Schritte” pulling the BPMs down into a dark pit, and the end cut
“Komm Tranz Mit Mir” is a haunting slow stomp of disconcerting and
unpredictable tones.

Her vision is raw and dark, but the swampy depths of her music allow
just enough light in to let life continue to thrive beneath the surface.
